I
Ichiko
Japanese tin plate toy manufacturer of the 1950s and 1960s. The products included cars and space toys.
IGRA
Toy manufacturer based in Czechoslovakia. In the 1960s it produced four 1/36th scale veteran cars: Laurin and Klement Voituretta, Praga Charron Landaulet, Tatra President and Velox Prague Landaulet.
Other plastic toys from the company involved cars, small commercials and trucks to roughly 1/43rd scale.
India
To a great extent India is noted for its copies of toys made elsewhere, particularly in the United Kingdom.
Perhaps the most famous range is that of Nicky Toys, taken from the dies of Dinky Toys.
Other items are known, such as a copy of a Tri-ang Minic single deck bus, and the Wells Brimtoy S-Type bus.
International Harvester
International Harvester finds its roots in farm equipment produced by Cyrus Hall McCormick. IH was formed in 1902, producing a large selection of farming equipment, and later moving into trucks. In 1986 with financial problems the company was split, with the farm equipment being acquired by Case-Tenneco.
Investment
All collecting is linked, in the minds of some, with investment. Those with more experience know that collecting should be for pleasure, not profit. The fact that a collection might later have a saleable value is a bonus.
Italy, made in
In many respects Italy was a little slow off the mark as regards toy and model manufacture, with only Mercury figuring to any degree prior to the Second World War. And indeed, much that Mercury offered was in fact imported from Märklin in Germany.
However, the situation has now changed, with many of the key names such as Bburago, Brumm, Bang, Best, Box, Polistil and Rio being Italian companies.
Many of these companies have been pioneering, and are proud of the fact that all their production is still undertaken in Italy, and has not succumbed to the Far East.
IXO
Manufacturer of model cars, mainly to 1/43rd scale, some of which include dies used by the original Vitesse range.
